Physical Therapy Assessment for Shoulder Pain

Health Loft physical therapists work with a variety of shoulder pain conditions caused from work injuries, exercise related injuries, accidents, and general wear and tear on your muscles. The shoulder interacts with other regions of the upper body, like your neck, upper back, and shoulder blade. We typically see mobility and strength problems begin in the back with your shoulder blade and drive many of the problems and pain you feel in your shoulder.

For your shoulder, your physical therapist will perform an initial examination which will involve looking at the mobility of your shoulder, shoulder blade, upper back, and rib-cage as all these areas contribute to movement of the shoulder. In addition, we will assess the strength of your shoulder and the shoulder blade as the latter contributes significantly to overhead motions and many individuals have weakness in this region that contributes significantly to their problem.

After the basic assessment your physical therapist will use a variety of tests to pinpoint the exact cause of your shoulder issue and create a physical therapy plan that will meet your recovery goals as quickly as possible.
