Physical Therapy for Dizziness & Vertigo
How Health Loft Can Help
Vertigo is a feeling that your room or surroundings are spinning and moving around you when you are not. This is usually a sign of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) which occurs when the tiny motion sensitive follicles that float inside your inner ear get stuck inside one of the ear’s semicircular canals. This makes your body over-sensitive to motion and makes you lose your sense of balance.
BPPV is most typically caused by the follicles becoming more brittle as you age. However vertigo can also be caused by migraines, or damage to your inner ear from an accident or surgery.
BPPV is treated by a physical therapist performing the Epley and Semont maneuvers. Both involve turning your head in certain ways, and possibly inducing a vertigo episode, to force the inner ear follicles to return to their correct position.

Physical Therapy Assessment for Dizziness & Vertigo
At Health Loft, our physical therapists begin by listening to your experiences and understanding what dizziness and vertigo symptoms you have. Then, we build an individualized approach to match your needs and work toward the result you want.
Your physical therapist will conduct a thorough physical examination. Some questions you may be asked include:
How long do your vertigo symptoms last?
Do your symptoms change when you change positions?
Are you noticing a loss of balance?
Are you experiencing a spinning sensation?
Physical therapy is a proven and effective treatment for dizziness, vertigo, and BPPV.
What you can do on your own to help:
